(Phnom Penh): Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, issued a directive suspending the Royal Water Festival, including the boat races, floating lanterns, and moon worship celebrations for 2025 in Phnom Penh, according to an announcement seen by Fresh News on Wednesday (Sep. 3).
The decision comes as Cambodia continues to fully and firmly observe the ceasefire agreement reached during the special meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 28 July 2025.
According to the announcement, the annual Water Festival celebrations, traditionally held along the Tonle Sap River in front of the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh, scheduled for 4-6 November 2025 will be suspended.
However, celebrations in the provinces may proceed as usual according to local customs, traditions, and the capacity of authorities and communities.
The three-day public holiday for civil servants, employees, and workers during the occasion remains unchanged.
