(Tianjin): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that Cambodia welcomed and supported China's Global Governance Initiative (CGI), which aims to enhance a UN-centred, just, inclusive, and effective global order.

The premier spoke on Monday (Sep. 1) during a Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus Summit under the theme of implementing multilateralism, ensuring regional security, and promoting sustainable development in Tianjin, China.

Samdech Thipadei also wished to highly commend the leading role of China as SCO Chair in promoting the Shanghai spirit and paving the way for new development for the SCO.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, highlighting its essential roles in peace and development, while underscoring the need to uphold the UN Charter's principles and advance action on global challenges.

"Cambodia welcomes and supports China's Global Governance Initiative, which aims to enhance a UN-centred, just, inclusive, and effective global order based on sovereign equality, rule of law, multilateralism, a people-centred approach, and practical results," the premier underscored.

Cambodia stands ready to work with all partners to advance these principles and build a community with a shared future for humanity.

Cambodia envisions SCO as a key multilateral platform guided by the Shanghai spirit in enhancing a new world order that prioritises mutual cooperation, respects sovereignty and territorial integrity, refrains from interfering in internal affairs of individual state environments' diversity.

Therefore, since becoming an SCO Dialogue Partner in 2015, Cambodia has attached great significance to fostering close cooperation with all SCO member states, observers, and Dialogue Partners in many areas for mutual benefit. As we are gathering at this crucial juncture, allow me to share my reflections on how we can advance our shared principles and aspirations.

First, implementing multilateralism requires a steadfast commitment to dialogue, mutual respect, and inclusivity. Our gathering today stands as a resolute call to action in the face of increasingly complex geopolitical realities, escalating conflicts, and pressing economic and environmental challenges. In this spirit, it is imperative that we must choose a dialogue over confrontation, restrain over-escalation, cooperation over conflict, and share progress over unilateral gain.

Second, ensuring security remains a paramount priority. Peace and stability are indispensable elements for sustainable development and prosperity for all. For Cambodia, as a peace-loving nation, I see great synergy between SCO and ASEAN in advancing peace and stability through diplomacy, consensus, and dialogue.

Lastly, promoting sustainable development is essential for inclusive growth and long-term stability. Cambodia supports greater cooperation in key areas including poverty alleviation, environmental protection, technological innovation, and the further development of infrastructural connectivity. The SCO's emphasis on the Shanghai spirit serves as a strong foundation for forging partnerships that respect each country's unique development trajectory while advancing our vision for shared progress and prosperity.

Cambodia's unwavering commitment to actively participating in the SCO's endeavours to safeguard regional security, drive sustainable development, and shape a future of peace, prosperity, and cooperation enjoyed by all.
