(Tianjin): On the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus Summit in Tianjin, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, held a working meeting with Wang Huning, Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
Wang warmly welcomed the Cambodian delegation, stressing that their presence reflects a strong commitment to deepening the long-standing friendship between Cambodia and China. He noted that bilateral ties have endured international shifts and continue to grow stronger, recalling Chinese President Xi Jinping’s remarks during his August 30 meeting with Hun Manet, which set out directions to further advance relations. He also reaffirmed China’s unwavering support for Cambodia.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, in turn, underlined that Cambodia–China relations have been carefully nurtured by generations of leaders, highlighting President Xi’s state visit to Cambodia in April as a milestone in strengthening cooperation. He expressed sincere gratitude to the government and people of China for their continuous support, particularly in enhancing Cambodia’s development capacity toward self-reliance, as well as in upholding the country's sovereignty.
Regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, Samdech Thipadei called on China to encourage both sides to avoid the use of military force in resolving unresolved border issues, especially in populated areas. He also urged both parties to resolve border issues peacefully through existing mechanisms, particularly the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), based on established bilateral agreements, relevant treaties, and international law.
China reaffirmed its support for a ceasefire between Cambodian and Thai military forces, expressed support for Malaysia’s mediating role, and called for a swift return to normalcy in bilateral relations. Before concluding, Wang reiterated that China will continue closely monitoring the Cambodia–Thailand border situation and remain engaged in efforts to help resolve it.
