(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Government Spokesperson Pen Bona stated that although the situation remains fragile, the one-month implementation of the ceasefire agreement has continuously delivered positive outcomes, with no armed clashes reported to date.
Pen Bona spoke on Friday (Aug. 29) during a press briefing on the implementation of the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire agreement.
“Though the situation remains fragile, over the past month, there have been many concerted efforts by both Cambodia, Thailand, and relevant parties, resulting in a series of positive developments and the prevention of armed conflict up to this point,” he underscored.
Key positive outcomes include the GBC meeting held on 7 August 2025, which resulted in 13 agreed points, and four rounds of RBC meetings, producing various mutual agreements that reflect the commitment of both sides to resolve issues, ease tensions, and prevent armed confrontation.
In addition, both countries have organized diplomatic visits and joint Interim Observer Team (IOT) with participation from military representatives from each side. These missions have conducted multiple field inspections of disputed border areas to witness conditions on the ground and serve as witnesses to the ceasefire's effectiveness.
Furthermore, senior leaders from Cambodia, Thailand, and Malaysia have maintained ongoing communication to address various issues and ensure that the ceasefire remains stable and sustainable.
Pen Bona also emphasized the strong solidarity among Cambodians both inside and outside the country, especially in defending peace, calling for the release of the 18 detained soldiers, and protecting national territorial integrity with dignity, nonviolence, and great patience. He described this spirit as worthy of a people belonging to a nation with a high civilization, ancient culture, and strong moral values.
He continued that the trust being placed in the Royal Government and national leadership by Cambodians at home and abroad is highly appropriate, as their decisions are made with the utmost responsibility to protect the interests of the nation and its people.
