(Phnom Penh): Cambodian and Japanese top diplomats exchanged views on the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, underscoring the importance of promoting peace and restoring Cambodia-Thailand relations to normalcy through the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire agreements.
On the morning of 27 August 2025, Prak Sokhonn, Cambodian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, had a bilateral meeting with Suzuki Hideo, Ambassador for Mekong Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, at the Ministry.
During the meeting, both sides expressed their satisfaction with the continued progress in bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and Japan, including political cooperation, trade, investment, security, development cooperation, mine clearance, and the removal of explosive remnants of war, both within bilateral and multilateral frameworks.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, underscoring the importance of promoting peace and restoring Cambodia-Thailand relations to normalcy through the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire agreements, exercising utmost restraint, promoting engagements at all levels, exploring of possibilities for humanitarian demining, and reopening of border crossings.
Cambodian foreign minister also expressed, on behalf of the Royal Government and the people of Cambodia, his sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Government of Japan for its continued contribution and support to the causes of peace, development and humanitarian assistance to displaced persons along the border at this time.
