(Phnom Penh): Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, noted that there have been positive developments through bilateral discussions between the two countries. Such notable developments include the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on 7 August 2025 in Malaysia and the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) on 16 August 2025.”

Maly Socheat spoke on Monday (Aug. 18) at a press conference on the implementation of the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire.

“Since the ceasefire officially took effect at midnight on July 28, 2025, it has been observed that there has been positive development through bilateral discussions between the two countries. Such notable developments include the extraordinary GBC meeting on 7 August 2025 in Malaysia and the extraordinary RBC meeting on 16 August 2025,” the spokesperson underscored.

She added that it is essential for both parties to continue fostering these positive developments in order to promote peace and stability, especially to restore normalcy in both countries and relationship across all sectors, for the benefit of both nations’ peoples.

During the press conference, the spokesperson also reported that as of the morning of 18 August 2025, the situation along Military Regions 4 and 5 bordering Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, and Preah Vihear provinces remained calm. Cambodian troops remained alert and disciplined in carrying out their duties.

Cambodia continues to call on the Thai side to implement the 13-point Agreed Minutes and return 18 of our military personnel to Cambodia so that they can reunite with their families who have been waiting days and nights. The Ministry of National Defence, the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, and the international community demanded that Thailand uphold its obligation under the international law.
