(Phnom Penh): The Interim Observer Team (IOT), comprising representatives from 7 countries, departed Phnom Penh on Thursday (Aug. 14) to observe the situation in the affected areas along the Cambodia-Thai border. The mission was conducted for 3 days, from 14 to 16 August 2025.
The Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on Thursday, 14 August 2025, has coordinated the Interim Observer Team (IOT) led by COL NAZLEE BIN ABDUL RAHIM, Defence Attaché of Malaysia to Cambodia, comprising representatives from 6 countries (Brunei, Indonesia, Lao, Myanmar, Philippines, and Viet Nam), both resident and non-resident, with the total of 7 members, departing for various actual sites in order to observe first-hand on the border security situation that directly impacted by during the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict as follow:
1. Battambang Province (Military Region 5)
2. Banteay Meanchey Province: Poipet International Border Checkpoint, Ou Beichoan Border Checkpoint (Chouk Chey Village) and Boeung Trakoun Border Checkpoint
3. Preah Vihear Province: Anseh Border Checkpoint
It is worth noting that this mission stemmed from the outcomes of the Special Meeting held on 28 July 2025, in Putrajaya, Malaysia, and the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (Extraordinary GBC Meeting) was concluded on 7 August 2025, which reaffirmed the importance of the IOT deployment.
The Ministry of National Defence reaffirms Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to upholding the ceasefire agreement and firmly committed to the principles of international law, the peaceful resolution of disputes and maintaining its sovereignty and territorial integrity at all costs.
