(Phnom Penh): Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, confirmed that the situation along the front lines in Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey provinces remained calm from 12 a.m. to 7 a.m. on Wednesday (Aug. 13).
Speaking at a press conference on the implementation of the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire, Maly Socheata said Cambodian forces remain strong, fully vigilant, and committed to their duties.
According to the spokesperson, the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia firmly rejects any accusation lacking clear and unfounded evidence from the Thai side related to the injury of Thai soldiers caused by the mine explosion at the Ta Moan Thom temple area, Banteay Ampil district, Oddar Meanchey province, Cambodia on 12 August 2025. Cambodia maintains its firm stance that Cambodia has absolutely not and will not use or plant any new landmines.
Lieutenant General Socheata added that up to this point, no official and transparent investigation has been carried out to establish the facts surrounding this incident. Furthermore, Cambodia has reminded Thailand on multiple accusations that this area still has explosives, which are the remnants of war.
Socheata underscored, “Cambodia reiterates its firm, clear, and unwavering commitment to respect and strictly implement the ceasefire agreement achieved on 28 July 2025, and the 13-point agreement reached during the extraordinary meeting of Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee, GBC, on 7 August 2025, with observers from Malaysia, the United States of America, and the People's Republic of China.”
Cambodia called on Thailand to honour all terms and conditions stipulated in the ceasefire agreement as well as the spirit and agreement during the extraordinary GBC meeting, which states that both sides agreed to maintain their current troops' deployments without further movement as it is at the time the ceasefire reached at 24:00 local time on 28 July 2025. There should be no troop movements, including patrols towards the other side's positions.
At the same time, Cambodia continues to call on Thailand to implement the agreement and return the 18 Cambodian soldiers who were detained after the ceasefire, which has been 15 days, so that they can reunite with their families.
