(Phnom Penh): Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence, said that border issues can never be resolved through the use of armed force, but must be addressed through technical mechanisms and international law.

The spokesperson spoke on Monday (Aug. 11) during a press conference.

“Border issues cannot be resolved by armed force under any circumstances. They must be resolved through technical mechanisms and international law,” Maly Socheata underscored.

According to the Defence Ministry spokesperson, Cambodia reaffirms its firm stance on resolving disputes through peaceful means, upholding the principle of peace, and strictly implementing the ceasefire. Cambodia hopes the Thai side will take the same position in good faith to bring a complete end to confrontation, restore peace and normalcy, and allow the peoples of both countries to live together in harmony.

She also called on the international community, particularly partner countries that worked hard to achieve this hard-won ceasefire, to firmly urge Thailand to respect the agreement, not just in words but through concrete actions by halting all violations and immediately removing all traps and barriers illegally placed in Cambodia’s sovereign territory.

Cambodia and Thailand agreed on 13 points at the Extraordinary General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting, with observers from Malaysia, the United States, and the People’s Republic of China, on 7 August 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

In Point 2, both sides agree to maintain current troop deployments without further movement as it is at the time ceasefire reached at 24:00 hours (local time) on 28 July 2025. There shall be no troop movements including patrol towards the other side’s position.
