(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), held with the observation of Malaysia, the United States, and the People’s Republic of China, was successfully conducted.

According to Samdech Thipadei, both Cambodia and Thailand discussed and reached mutual agreement on the terms for implementing the ceasefire and enhancing direct communication between the two armed forces.

The premier wrote on his social media on Thursday (Aug. 7).

“I would like to express my congratulations on the successful convening of the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), which took place on 7 August 2025, with the participation of observers from Malaysia, the United States, and the People’s Republic of China.

This meeting was the implementation of agreements made between myself and Phumtham Wechayachai, Acting Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, during our special meeting held in Putrajaya, Malaysia, on 28 July 2025, co-organised by Malaysia and the United States, with active participation from the People’s Republic of China.

Both Cambodia and Thailand have discussed and agreed upon the conditions for implementing the ceasefire and enhancing communication between the two armed forces.

The two sides also agreed to promote the development of operational terms for the monitoring mechanism to be carried out by the ASEAN Observer Team, and approved the deployment of an Interim Observer Team, led by the Malaysian military liaison, for immediate observation, pending the full setup of the ASEAN Observer Team.

Moreover, the two sides agreed to convene a joint meeting of the Regional Border Committee (RBC) within two weeks and a meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) within one month after this Extraordinary GBC Meeting. If necessary, both parties may reconvene another Extraordinary GBC Meeting in the same format.

Cambodia has also requested the prompt release of the 18 Cambodian soldiers currently being detained by the Thai military.”
