YANGON, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar President U Htin Kyaw will pay an official visit to Japan soon to strengthen bilateral relations, said an official announcement Friday.

At the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, U Htin Kyaw will also attend the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Forum-2017 to be held in the Japanese capital of Tokyo.

In November 2016, Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi visited Japan, during which Abe pledged to provide 800 billion yen (7.73 billion U.S. dollars) to Myanmar over five years to aid the nation's building.

The two countries also signed an agreement on a framework for the dispatch of a group of Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers to Myanmar to provide official technical assistance.
