(Phnom Penh): Chum Sounry, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, issued a firm condemnation of recent Thai military provocations, calling on Thailand to respect Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in line with the UN Charter, ASEAN Charter, and fundamental principles of international law. He also urged Thailand to avoid further escalating tensions along the shared border.

He spoke on Tuesday (Aug. 5) during a press briefing on the implementation of the Cambodia–Thailand ceasefire agreement.

The statement came in response to a wave of disinformation from the Thai side, which has allegedly fabricated and circulated false claims aimed at discrediting Cambodia without presenting any credible evidence. In stark contrast, at 11:00 a.m. on 4 August 2025, Thai armed forces, accompanied by heavy machinery, reportedly entered the Anseh area and other locations within Cambodian sovereign territory.

Spokesperson Chum Sounry announced, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation strongly condemns the continued military provocations by Thai forces. We demand that the Thai side fully respect Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with the UN Charter, the ASEAN Charter, and fundamental principles of international law. We urge an immediate halt to all unilateral military actions that pose threats to civilians and risk further escalating tensions.”

He further called on Thailand to ensure that its actions on the ground reflect its public commitments to peace. Cambodia urges the Thai side to uphold the ceasefire in good faith and ensure both militaries strictly comply with the agreement.

The Ministry also warned against further disinformation efforts and other actions that could inflame tensions or jeopardize fragile border stability.

Chum Sounry reaffirmed that Cambodia remains steadfast in its commitment to resolving all issues through peaceful means, in accordance with international law, the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding, and the recently concluded ceasefire agreement between the two militaries, reached on 28 July 2025, in Malaysia.
