(Phnom Penh): Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defence, confirmed as of 27 July 2025, a total of 39,828 families, comprising 134,707 individuals, including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, have been displaced and relocated to safe zones or the homes of relatives across four provinces.
Maly Socheata spoke on Monday (Jul. 28) during a press conference.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday (July 28), Maly Socheata condemned Thailand’s military aggression, which has forced the closure of over 600 schools in five provinces, affecting more than 150,000 students and 6,000 teachers. She highlighted that villages, health centres, markets, fuel stations, schools, and even the UNESCO-listed Preah Vihear Temple have been hit by indiscriminate attacks, endangering civilians, particularly women and children.
She further noted that the conflict has disrupted the lives of Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand, many of whom are being forced to return. According to the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, approximately 400,000 Cambodian workers have returned since July 24, with an additional 150,000 expected to return today alone.
Maly Socheata added that Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand have faced physical abuse and threats from extremist groups, urging Thai authorities to take immediate action to protect Cambodian nationals.
