Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 22 – Former broadcaster for Radio Free Asia (RFA), Sok Ratha on Wednesday called for the United States and RFA leaders to be responsible and offer him employment benefits.
At a press conference at Park Cafe restaurant Wednesday morning, Sok Ratha said that he has worked with RFA for 13 years, and in September 2017, RFA decided to shut down its bureau in Phnom Penh, terminating all employment contracts.
He added that RFA has pledged to make payment and offer employment contracts, as provided in Cambodian Labor Law, from which he shall obtain a total amount of $28,000.
"So far, I have been waiting for two months. RFA's management has not provided me with benefits as promised, and has cut me off the list of those beneficiaries," said Sok Ratha.
RFA closed its office in Cambodia on September 10, and its staff in Cambodia work individually. Two ex-RFA reporters were charged with providing a foreign state with information that undermines national defense.
