(Phnom Penh): Former Oknha Heng Sethy was extradited from Russia to Cambodia late on May 24 to face criminal charges, National Police Commissioner General Neth Savoeun confirmed to Fresh News.

According to Lieutenant General Chhay Kim Khoeun, Deputy Commissioner General and National Police spokesperson, the extradition was conducted under a bilateral agreement and followed an arrest warrant issued by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court.

Heng Sethy is charged with serious defamation and threats stemming from an incident in November 2024, punishable under Articles 372 and 374 of the Cambodian Criminal Code.

Cambodian authorities, in collaboration with International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), issued a Red Notice that led to Heng Sethy's arrest by INTERPOL Moscow on January 13, 2025, at St. Petersburg train station as he prepared to board a train to Moscow.

Following the legal framework of the Cambodia–Russia extradition treaty, Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior coordinated with the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Russian Embassy in Phnom Penh to secure the extradition.

Heng Sethy is now in the custody of the Cambodian judiciary pending further legal proceedings.
