(Dili): Timorese President José Ramos-Horta sent gratitude letter to Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen for expressing his heartfelt gratitude for Samdech Techo’s official visit to Timor-Leste from 7-9 May 2025.
"It was with great joy that our country and people welcomed Your Excellency on a visit to Timor-Leste. Allow me to convey my heartfelt gratitude for Your Excellency's gracious participation in the various official engagements of the visit, including the bilateral meeting held on 8 May 2025 at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace, the Special Solemn Session convened by the National Parliament of Timor- Leste, the meeting with His Excellency Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão, and the Official Banquet - all moments of great significance for the relations between our two countries," according to the letter seen by Fresh News on Thursday (May 15).
"The bilateral meeting allowed us to explore avenues for cooperation, particularly in the fields of agriculture, food security, education, trade, and economic development. am especially grateful for Your Excelency's resolute support for Timor-Leste's full accession to ASEAN, as well as for the valuable strategic insights shared regarding our path towards regional integration.
I also wish to express my sincere thanks to Your Excellency for graciously accepting the invitation to contribute to the Presidential Lecture Series with your address on the theme: "Hun Sen's Lessons- From Genocide and Poverty to Freedom and Prosperity", delivered on 09 May 2025. Your compelling testimony of resilience, leadership, and strategic vision will undoubtedly remain a source of inspiration for the people of Timor-Leste.
Your Excellency's generous remarks on the progress of Dili since your last visit in 2016 were deeply encouraging, further strengthening our resolve to advance along the path of modernization and sustainable development.
We were equally touched by your kind reflections on the festive reception extended by the people of Timor-Leste and by the many gestures of genuine friendship shared throughout your visit- among which I had the honour of personally driving Your Excellency through the streets of our capital, in a symbolic expression of esteem and closeness.
In the hope that this visit marks the beginning of a renewed chapter of exchange and cooperation between Timor-Leste and the Kingdom of Cambodia, I reiterate my highest personal esteem and consideration."
