Phnom Penh (FN), October 28 – Sam Rainsy, former Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), sent a confidential letter to Kem Sokha, current president of the CNRP and is in pre-trial detention center-asking him to consult with Mu Sochua, Eng Chhai Eang , and Yim Sovann before making any decision.
Mao Monyvann, a senior official and a lawmaker for CNRP, stated that Kem Sokha’s signature on the Senate's candidacy was legitimate.
"Because Kem Sokha is the president of the party and according to the court procedure, if he remains a defendant or accused, he is not guilty, he still has the right to be the president of the party and signs the candidature ... we follow the correct legal procedure," Mao Monivann said.
Sam Rainsy also issued a statement via a video from Italy announcing to members and supporters of the CNRP that they do not accept any decision issued by Kem Sokha without the consensus of the other three top figures.
The former president has alerted the accuracy of any decision issued by Kem Sokha because of his detention that may be subject to pressure. He added that the party's official decision is a decision issued by the Permanent Committee members.
