Phnom Penh (FN), October 26 - Japan announced to continue supporting Cambodia's election in 2018 to ensure transparency and that Japan will not interfere into Cambodia's internal affairs.

The announcement was made on Thursday when Iwao Horii, Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, met with Cambodian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prak Sokhonn.

The meeting took place at the ministry.

Cambodian side presented the political situation in Cambodia in the present day and both sides discuss to strengthen and expand the relations of Cambodia and Japan, according to the ministry's spokesman, Chum Sounry.

Political tension arose following the arrest of Kem Sokha, former President of Cambodia National Rescue Party, and the amendments to laws on election.

Cambodia and Japan has established its diplomatic relations since 1953, and it has been fruitful for both countries, transforming Cambodia-Japan bilateral relations into a strategic partnership.
