HANOI, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- The number of people killed in landslides and floods caused by torrential rain in Vietnam's northern and central regions since early last week has surged to 75.
The landslides and floods have also left 28 people missing, and 38 others injured, Vietnam's Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control said on Tuesday.
The 75 victims included 24 people in northern Hoa Binh province, 17 in northern Yen Bai province, 16 in central Thanh Hoa province, nine in central Nghe An province, six in northern Son La province, two in Hanoi capital, and one in central Quang Tri province.
The landslides and floods affected nearly 28.8 kms of dykes in Hanoi, Thanh Hoa and the four northern provinces of Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh and Ninh Binh.
They also killed or swept away nearly 10,400 cattle and over 301,400 poultry.
In the 2000-2015 period, Vietnam faced 250 flash floods and landslides which left 646 people killed or missing , and 351 others injured, according to statistics from the committee.
