Phnom Penh (FN), October 6 - Cambodia's labor unions, representing almost 500,000 workers, including National Association of Career Colleges (NACC) and Voice Khmer Youth Union Federation (VKYUF), announced on Friday to support workers’ wage to increase from $153 in 2017 to $170 in 2018.
Som Aun, President of NACC, thanked the trilateral mechanism, with the participation of the representatives of the government, unions, and employers, especially the intergovernmental representatives for leading a discussion and facilitating good results.
The president called on all buyers to maximize orders to increase more works for Cambodians and, in particular, to increase the prices so that the employers will be able to benefit the workers in a better way.
Long Sophat, president of VKYUF, also supported and congratulated the minimum wage increase for garment, textile and footwear workers in 2018.
He added that the decision to increase the wage is to stabilize the work environment, to attract more investment and to improve the livelihoods of workers, employers and their families.
On behalf of VKYUF, Long Sophat thanked Prime Minister Hun Sen and Ith Sam Heng, Minister of Labor, for putting efforts to improving the livelihoods of the workers.
