ULAN BATOR, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- The ruling People's Party of Mongolia Tuesday chose acting Deputy Prime Minister Khurelsukh Ukhnaa as candidate for new prime minister after dismissing the former one over alleged incompetence and corruption.
After a party's conference starting at midnight, Ukhnaa stood out of three candidates with 188 votes or 63.9 percent from the 294 attendees. His name will be submitted to the State Great Khural, Mongolia's parliament, for discussion.
Earlier this month, lawmakers demanded that Prime Minister Jargaltulga Erdenebat resign for allegedly violating parliamentary procedures through the granting of contracts worth the equivalent of 328 million U.S. dollars to companies linked to three cabinet members.
On Monday, the party officially nominated three candidates including Enkhbold Nyamaa, Ehnkhtuvshin Ulziisaikhan and Khurelsukh Ukhnaa for the post of the 30th prime minister.
Among his previous posts, Ukhnaa has served as minister for emergency situation from 2004 to 2006 and party general secretary from 2008 to 2012.
