Phnom Penh (FN), September 15 - The Ministry of Information (MoI), spokesman Ouk Kimseng denied Radio Free Asia (RFA)'s the Cambodia Daily newspaper's claims that MoI and the Royal Government of Cambodia oppressed the right to freedom of information in Cambodia.
The rejection was made in a press conference on Friday morning.
"On behalf of MoI, I denied the claim that MoI oppressed RFA’s freedom as well as other media outlets,” said Ouk Kimseng.
"Cambodia Daily was closed by itself because of tax issue, but Cambodia Daily is welcomed to launch its operation again when they pay the tax to the General Department of Taxation. MoI did not close the Cambodia Daily,” he added.
There are more than two foreign newspapers operating in Cambodia such as: Xinhua, Reuter, AFP, AP, CNN and Kyodo.
