Korea (FN), September 11 - Approximately 3,000 Khmer people living and working in the Republic of Korea attended the celebration of the National Festival, "Pchum Ben" on September 10, 2017, and they expressed the view to avoid demonstrations.

In the celebration of the Pchum Ben, there were also officials of the Royal Government of Cambodia and leaders of the municipal authorities.

Cambodian Ambassador to South Korea, Long Dimanche, confirmed that the gathering is for the celebration, not a demonstration demanding the release of Kem Sokha as published on Facebook.

Cambodia's ambassador to South Korea made a statement today after it was reported that many Cambodian workers working in South Korea had demonstrated a  police and the court release Kem Sokha, opposition party leader, who was charged with treason.

A Cambodian worker from Koh Kong province working in the industrial sector in Korea expressed his thought that joining the demonstration is negatively affected income for his family and the next generation workers.

"Every country has made effort to maintain stability and ask the Korean government to increase the quota of sending workers to work in Korea. Demonstration is like wiping out our country's quota," he said.
