Phnom Penh) (FN) , September 4 - Ministry of Interior's spokesman, Khieu Sopheak, stated that the arrest of Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP)'s President Kem Sokha does not affect democracy in Cambodia.

The statement was made on Monday in response to the EU's Press Release on Sunday claiming that the arrest was a violation of parliamentary immunity, which showed an increase in political risk.

The EU has also expressed its concern on the voting environment for the coming 2018 and the Cambodian democracy.

Responding to the EU's statement, Khieu Sopheak clarified that Kem Sokha's arrest was a legal practice for any offense and that Cambodia shall implement to avoid repeating mistake in history.

"This is the practice of Cambodia as a sovereign state," he said.

"The arrest will not affect Cambodia's democracy, as the voting process still operates as normal," he added.
