Phnom Penh (FN), September 1 - Investigating Judge of Phnom Penh Municipal Court (PPMC) ordered the detention of a young woman who involved in the human trafficking case.

The crackdown was held on Thursday under the direct command of Pol Pithey, director of anti-human trafficking department, and was coordinated by Deputy Prosecutor Va Sakda.

So Vandy, deputy chief of anti-human trafficking department, said that a woman, U Rarin, 26, was arrested on August 31 for trafficking 26 Cambodian women to work as housemaids in Malaysia.

She was sent to PPMC on Friday.

He added that the suspect had successfully convinced the 26 victims to work in Malaysia since 2014 with the promises of giving them $300 to $400 per month.

The suspect had received a large sum of money from a Malaysian broker identified as Ho, a compensation of $1,500 for one housemaid, and he took them to work at his designated places for 18 hours per day without rest.

Cambodian officials in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs rescued and repatriated those victims to Cambodia.
