Phnom Penh (FN), August 31 - The Royal Government of Cambodia released a decision on August 24 to allow the Ministry of National Defense to recruit 3,850 soldiers in response to the needs of the army, especially for the newly established brigade in Stung Treng in August 12, 2017.
Four days after the establishment, Prime Minister Hun Sen announced the deployment of naval assets to the province following recent border frictions with Laos in the area.
The announcement was made following Laotian troops, who camped south of the Sekong River in Stung Treng’s Siem Pang district since April, were impeding Cambodian military engineers from moving forward with a border side road project.
