Phnom Penh (FN), August 28 - The Royal Government of Cambodia plans to allocate additional budget of $225,000 to Bar Association of Cambodia (BAC) in 2018 to support volunteered lawyers who help defend the poor for free, according to MoJ’s spokesman Chin Malin.
"The money that the MoJ has provided has increased each year, from $50,000 in 2013 to $150,000 in 2017. In 2018, we are planning to raise it up to $225,000 to sponsor lawyers who volunteer to defend the poor, especially in remote provinces,” said MoJ’s spokesman.
“The additional budget of $225,000 is not enough for volunteered lawyers, but it could handle up to 2,000 cases,” said Soun Visal, BAC’s president.
