Phnom Penh (FN), August 24 - Khieu Kanharith, Minister of Information (MoI), stated that some foreign news agencies also demand the Cambodian Daily to pay taxes for quitable competition.
The claim was made on Thursday morning at a press conference at the Ministry of Information.
Following the leaked documents from the General Department of Taxation, Ou Chanrith, a member of Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) posted a message on Facebook alleging that the Cambodia Daily Newspaper Company has failed to pay taxes for over a decade, racking up a whopping 25,756,015,695 riels, approximately $6 million.
The Cambodia Daily is facing the prospect of being shuttered and having all assets confiscated if the state fails to receive back taxes by September 4, 2017, according to Kong Vibol, General Directorate of General Department of Taxation.
