HARBIN, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Three Japanese bombs have been discovered in northeast China's Heilongjiang province, said local police on Tuesday.

One was found by a man looking for herbs in the forest of Sunwu county. Police said the bomb was still live.

They then searched the area and found two more bombs. All three are believed to have been left over at the site, which was a fortification during World War II.

The bombs are to be taken to a safe place and destroyed.

In World War II, Japanese army built more than 1,250 military installations along the border of China and former Soviet Union. Close to 100,000 Japanese soldiers were stationed in Sunwu county, where they abandoned lots of weapons and ammunition.
