MANILA, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- A 6.3-magnitude earthquake rocked the Philippine main Luzon Island on Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The Phivolcs said the epicenter of the earthquake was recorded 5 kilometers southwest of Lian, a town in Batangas province around 1:28 p.m. local time with a depth of 161 kilometers.

The quake was also felt in the Philippine capital of Manila.

Phivolcs said it has not received any reported damage as a result of the quake. Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum told a local radio station that the deep quake will not trigger a tsunami.

The U.S. Geographical Survey said it has recorded 6.2-magnitude quake in the area with a depth of 168 kilometers.

USGS said the quake was also felt in nearby provinces like Laguna all the way up to Metro Manila.
