Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 5 – German Ambassador to Cambodia Stefan Messerer stated that German companies are considering expanding its investments into Cambodia, in addition to its current investments in Viet Nam. The company is studying the investment environment in Cambodia, including tax procedures.
Stefan Messerer paid a courtesy call on Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen on 4 July 2024 at the Senate.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his support for the investment in this "1-plus" formula and showed keen interest in it. He raised the example of the Japanese company Minebea, which, after investing in Cambodia's neighboring countries, also expanded its investments in Cambodia. This has contributed to a smooth and uninterrupted supply chain.
Regarding the investment climate in Cambodia, Samdech Techo affirmed that the new Royal Government, under the leadership of the new prime minister, is actively working to facilitate and improve the investment environment.
On the occasion, Samdech Techo also underlined that Cambodia is promoting exports to other European countries, as well as to the United States, Japan, Korea, and China, especially within the framework of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA). Additionally, Cambodia has established free trade agreements with China, Korea, and the United Arab Emirates, and is seeking to establish similar agreements with other countries.
