Phnom Penh (FN), July 28 - At least seven provinces have been affected by the floods, while two provinces are severely affected, according to the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM).
“The seven provinces that are affected include Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, Kampong Thom, Kampot Khmom Ratanakiri and Sihanoukville, but Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey affected the most,” said Nhim Vanda, first VP of NCMD.
The NDMC reported that 530 houses and 4878 hectares of farmland in Preah Vihear are affected while two people were drowned, and 48 families have been evacuated to safer ground.
In Oddar Meanchey, 702 houses with 1032 hectares of farmland were affected, but no casualties were reported.
The Ministry of Water Resources reported that Cambodia may be affected by ENSO Neutral Condition, which causes intermittent rainfall causing water in the Mekong Basin, and throughout Cambodia to rise.
PM Hun Sen directed all authorities on all levels to be more vigilant and careful, and urged them to continue to monitor (the situation) and help people.
