Phnom Penh (FN), May 29 – Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul urged companies, as well as Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Cambodia, to explore the possibility of joining Alibaba.com to expand their sales and promote the export of Cambodian products to international markets.

Minister Cham Nimul spoke on 27 May 2024 during the opening ceremony of the workshop under the theme “Beyond Borders: Bringing Cambodian Products to the Global Market through Alibaba.com” at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra.

Cham Nimul praised the Ministry of Commerce team, the private sector, and the Alibaba.com team for their hard work and close cooperation, noting the significant progress achieved.

The minister expressed strong confidence that Cambodia can fully capitalise on opportunities to expand the scope of its exports, strengthen competitiveness, and diversify its economy into international markets.

On that occasion, Commerce Minister Cham Nimul also encouraged companies and SMEs in Cambodia to submit their products to the CambodiaTrade e-commerce marketplace for free and explore the potential of participating in Alibaba.com to sell and promote Cambodian products globally.

Cham Nimul underlined that this initiative aims to support and promote the use of e-commerce platforms, enhancing the reputation of Cambodian products and ensuring they are competitive and meet international standards.

To further promote the use of Alibaba.com and the export of Cambodian products, Minister Cham Nimul made several recommendations:

1. Prepare guidelines and short instructional videos on how to use Alibaba.com to ensure that the private sector, particularly SMEs in Cambodia, can easily understand and utilise the platform.

2. Facilitate and disseminate information to help the private sector and businesses with potential products meet export requirements through this mechanism.

3. Continue cooperating with Alibaba.com to monitor and analyse market demand, thereby better preparing the private sector and the Cambodian business community to supply the products needed by customers now and in the future.

4. Provide ongoing dissemination, training, and technical advice to mobilise and support the participation of Cambodian businesses in this mechanism.

5. Encourage close collaboration among ministries, institutions, and the private sector, both domestically and internationally, to promote trade and business in Cambodia.
