Banteay Meanchey (FN), July 25 - From 1992 to February 2017, Cambodia has cleared 1,562,962,679 square meters of land, and found four types of landmines in total of 493 million of explosives, according to Ly Thuch, Secretary General of the Cambodian Mine Action Authority.
The statement was made during the closing ceremony of HALO Minefield Management Leadership Day on Tuesday, organized by HALO Trust in Banteay Meanchey Province.
"The four types of landmines include anti-personnel mines, anti-tank weapons, unexploded ordnance, and shrapnel were cleared by CMAC and NPMEC (under the Ministry of National Defense) as well as four international partners such as MAG, HALO, CSHD and NPA," said Ly Thuch.
On behalf of Prime Minister Hun Sen and Chairman of Mine Authority, he thanked and appreciated the leadership of all staff for their efforts with all the strength, courage and engagement with government in mine clearance.
The Senior Minister would like to thank donors and development partners for supporting all mine action activities and asking all donor countries to continue supporting the mine action.
He also advised all the members in the meeting to take advantage of the experience and knowledge from today's meeting.
