KABUL, July 21 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) have killed 98 suspected insurgents across the country since early Thursday, said the country's Defense Ministry on Friday morning.
"In past 24 hours, the ANDSF conducted anti-terrorism operations to clear some of the areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan, killing 98 armed insurgents and injuring 36 others," the ministry said in a statement.
Among those killed during the raids were several members of Taliban militant group and four Islamic State (IS) fighters, the statement added.
The troops also discovered and confiscated rounds of light and heavy ammunition during the raids conducted in 13 of the country's 34 provinces, according to the statement.
The statement did not mention if there were any casualties on the side of the security forces.
Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants recently as the Taliban and IS fighters have been attempting to take territory and consolidate their positions across the country.
