Phnom Penh (FN), May 18 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet affirmed that the Royal Government will never abandon its citizens, regardless of their circumstances, speaking on Saturday (May 18) during his meeting with the Cambodian community in Seoul, the Republic of Korea.

He underlined that the government will continue to support all Cambodian citizens, whether in times of difficulty, happiness, or trouble, and will collaborate with other countries to help resolve any issues they face.

"The Royal Government does not abandon workers or students sent abroad," the premier underscored. "The Cambodian Constitution mandates the protection of all citizens, and this is a fundamental policy of the Royal Government."

The premier mentioned that during the COVID19 pandemic, the Royal Government collaborated with Korean authorities to support Cambodian workers. Currently, officials from the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Labor, and diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are facilitating online passport services for Cambodian citizens without any discrimination.

Samdech Thipadei added that guest houses for Cambodian workers have been arranged to accommodate those needing temporary lodging, including the provision of food or rice. He noted that the Cambodian government has worked with associations in Korea to support Cambodians in need.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet noted that Cambodia has partnered with the Centre for Supporting Foreign Workers and the Korean Labor Advisory Centre to assist Cambodian workers in Korea. He expressed hope that this collaboration would continue, as more Cambodian workers are expected to arrive in Korea, increasing the need for assistance.

During the meeting, Premier Hun Manet added that when Cambodian workers face accidents, the Cambodian Embassy in Korea and Ministry of Labor officials collaborate with lawyers and Korean authorities to ensure proper procedures are followed for the victims, including securing compensation or providing support to the victim's family in case of loss of life.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stated that the Royal Government will not abandon Cambodian citizens, regardless of their location, and urged the Cambodian Embassy in Korea to work diligently to support the people.
