Stung Treng (FN), July 12 – A 400 megawatt hydroelectric power plant will be put into operation on July 15 in Stung Treng.
The Lower Sesan 2 Hydropower Plant in Steung Treng province, the largest in Cambodia, will undergo trials beginning July 15. The official watergate closing ceremony is slated for September 25, 2017.
“This is a great achievement of the Royal Government of Cambodia. It lends more stability and quality to the power grid,” stated Electricite Du Cambodge (EDC)
The Lower Sesan 2 hydropower project is a joint project between the Chinese investment firm Hydrolancang International Energy (51%), Cambodia's Royal Group (39%) and EVN from Vietnam (10%).
It sits on 36,000 hectares and has an altitude of 80 meters, with a height of 75 meters for storing water and 5 meters for preventing the risk from over-high-altitude water levels.
As estimated, it will be able to provide tax revenues to the state at US$30 million annually.
Under the agreement between the investment firms and the government, after 40 years of operation, the Lower Sesan 2 Hydroelectric Project operations and maintenance will be transferred to the government, which reflects the significant contribution of private company to the government.
