Phnom Penh (FN), July 4 – Japan has funded approximately $46M US in grant aid to the Royal Government of Cambodia for pscholarships to Cambodian students and officials to study in Japan, according to Senior Minister Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Japan's most recent grant to Cambodia, worth nearly $6 million, was signed between Prak Sokhonn and Horinouchi Hidehisa, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, on Tuesday.

Those grants include $2.5 million for the Human Resource Development Scholarship Project (3 years rolling) for the 2017 academic year and $3.27 million for the Human Resource Development Scholarship Project for the 2018 academic year.

Japanese ambassador Horinouchi Hidehisa expressed his gratitude for the development of human resources in Cambodia.

“By 2016, Japan provided a total of 46m US for 368 Cambodian students to study in Japan, of which 275 graduated and returned home. They have been actively involved in the development of Cambodia in many fields”, stated Prak Sokhonn.

He added that human resource development is a key priority of the Royal Government of Cambodia as the success of national development policy and strategy depends on knowledge, skills and talent in practice.

The Senior Minister expresses his profound thanks to the Government of Japan for its continued commitment to provide human development assistance in Cambodia over the next three years, from 2018 to 2021.
