Siem Reap (FN), June 27 – UNESCO’s Ad Hoc Expert presented examples of damage caused to several heritage sites as a result of Civil War.

The presentation was made during the 28th Meeting of the Technical Committee of the ICC-Angkor and served as a reminder for the relevant institutions to pay serious attention to preserving the heritage of Angkor, according to Pheoung Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts and head of Apsara Authority.

“We must understand that the Angkor region was registered as a World Heritage Site and that we are obligated to comply with international standards. When a number of international standards are violated, our friends both inside and outside, always pay attention and remind us to take timely actions,” said the minister in a press conference.

Cambodia not only boasts Angkor Wat but also Sambo Prei Kuk, Banteay Chmar, Preah Khan, and other important heritage areas on Kulen Mountain enlisted.

"If the maintenance of a registered area is inadequate, it may be difficult for further registrations.

Be aware that the Royal Government and the Apsara Authority are committed to preserving these heritage sites,” she added.
