Koh Kong (FN), June 23 –  Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, ordered relevant authorities in Koh Kong to investigate allegations of arms trafficking in the wake of the discovery of weapons being bootlegged from Cambodia to Burma via Thailand by way of Koh Kong.

The order came during the installment ceremony of the the new Koh Kong Governor, Mithona Puthorng, on Friday morning.

Sar Kheng ordered the Cambodian authorities to cooperate with Thai authorities in the investigation of illegal weapons being smuggled from Cambodia to the war-ravaged Burmese border.

“Cambodia is a peaceful country and many weapons have been destroyed. Where would such weapons be exported from Cambodia to other countries? The answer is through the Koh Kong border, not the international gateway,” said Sar Kheng.

“Neth Savoeun is in contact with the Thai police chief and will investigate this case to pinpoint the architect behind the trade,” he added.

Thai police recently discovered a cache of illegal weapons in a crash involving Thai military vehicles.

Details regarding the accident have yet to be released.
