Phnom Penh (FN), June 14 - Wiliam A. Heidt, U.S Ambassador to Cambodia reiterated that the Commune-Council Election on June 4 was free and fair.
The reiteration was made when he attended the commemoration of the American Independence Day on Tuesday night in Siem Reap.
"We recognized that the election was held in a positive climate as the Embassy's statement released earlier," stated the ambassador.
The Embassy released a statement last Monday in which they stated:
“The Embassy had 40 election observer teams deployed throughout Cambodia.
They visited more than 300 locations in Phnom Penh and 13 provinces. In general, the polling stations were orderly and peaceful."
He reaffirmed that the democracy and human rights are not perfect even in the U.S but what matters is Cambodian people are more aware of democracy and that the next election will be more democratic, freer, and just.
