Phnom Penh (FN), May 31 – Phay Siphan, a spokesperson for the government, responded to a report released by Amnesty International as a baseless attack against the CPP-led government before the election.
The reaction comes after Amnesty International published a report alleging that the government has worked to eliminate free expression and non-violent gatherings by opposing parties prior to the election.
The report also suggests that the judiciary is being manipulated to silence those people who dare to publicly criticize the ruling party.
“This organization is biased. The opposition party leader’s speech has similar content as the report of this organization,” he said adding that “the report has a political affiliation and is against the government and the CPP".
He went to elaborate that the Cambodian judiciary only practices within its jurisdiction and without outside pressures or interferences.
Phay reiterated that judgments are carried out in accordance to facts and procedures.
