Siem Reap (FN), May 25 - The floating bridge that leads to Angkor Wat is officially open to the public.

Phoeurng Sackona, the Minister of Culture and Fine Arts and President of APSARA Authority, led the opening ceremony.

Monks, government officials, international organizations, and thousands of people were in attendance.

“War does not only destroy people, but also infrastructure, culture, and heritage,” stated the Minister.

The bridge is 170 meters long and 8 meters wide. It can accommodate up to 1,380 people at a time.

The renovation of the ancient bridge is on-going process thanks to the assistance and generosity of the Apsara Authority and the University of Sofia in Japan.

All repairs of the ancient bridge are expected to be finished by 2020.

The bridge has been renovated three times since the 1950's.
