Phnom Penh (FN), May 18 – Prime Minister Hun Sen boasted that the peace and prosperity Cambodia enjoys is due solely to the Cambodian People's Party (CPP).
The statement was made during a meeting between the Premier and civil servants, armed forces, and commune council candidates on Thursday.
Cambodia experienced political instability and strife since the late 1960s and the exile of King Norodom Sihanouk.
Conditions worsened under the Khmer Rouge Regime which left the country in ruins and the population devastated.
Cambodia was liberated in 1979 when the leaders of the CPP, including Chea Sim, Heng Samrin and Prime Minister Hun Sen liberated Cambodia from the Democratic Kampuchea government.
“It is solely through the CPP’s efforts to bring back Cambodia’s prosperity, social peace, and economic development,” stated the premier.
“It is difficult for other countries to end war, but Cambodia did it. Thanks to all the people and Cambodian armed forces for their contribution to peace,” he added.
According to the Asian Development Bank, Cambodia’s economic growth is expected to grow 7% per annum and was highly commended after a 20-year economic growth in a row.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen, Cambodia has transformed from a low-income to low middle-income country.
