Phnom Penh (FN), May 16 - National Election Committee (NEC) rejected the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP)'s request, but considering to allow distributions of leaflet and microphone for propaganda.

The rejection was made following CNRP's request on Tuesday morning.

Yem Sovann, head of the Executive Committee and lawyer for the CNRP has once again requested the (NEC) to consider removing a ban on electoral campaigns.

The request was made during a special meeting between Som Sorida, deputy secretary-general of NEC and the CNRP's senior official Yem Sovann at NEC Headquarter in Phnom Penh.

CNRP requested so since the current ban on marching has made it difficult for the CNRP to operate their electoral campaign. However, their request was rejected.

Phnom Penh Capital Hall, with the support from the NEC, informed all 12 political parties to avoid rallies and marching through the crowded streets in Phnom Penh, during election campaigns.

The ban was enacted to avoid gridlock and ensure the safety of citizens and tourists.

Hang Puthea, spokesman for NEC, supported the Capital Hall's proposal and warned political parties who violate curfew and the authorities.
