Phnom Penh (FN), May 16 - Yem Sovann, head of the Executive Committee and lawyer for the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) has once again requested the National Election Committee (NEC) to consider removing a ban on electoral campaigns.
The request was made Tuesday during a special meeting between the ruling parting (CPP) and the CNRP at CPP Headquarters in Phnom Penh.
The current ban on marching has made it difficult for the CNRP to operate their electoral campaign.
Phnom Penh Capital Hall, with the support from the NEC, informed all 12 political parties to avoid rallies and marching through the streets in Phnom Penh during election campaigns.
The ban was enacted to avoid gridlock and ensure the safety of citizens and tourists.
Hang Puthea, spokesman for NEC, supported the Capital Hall's proposal and warned political parties who violate curfew and the authorities.
