Phnom Penh (FN), May 16 - The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MoAFF) met with pork producers and importers on Tuesday morning at the MoAFF.
The meeting was between Veng Sakhon, minister of AFF and the Cambodian Pig Raisers Association (CPRA) and other various pig importers and raisers.
The meeting was in response to the problems surrounding pork imports and health-related issues.
The CPRA recently requested the Department of Animal Health and Production, as well as relevant ministries, to reduce the number of pigs imported from neighboring countries.
The association quoted human health and domestic price as its primary concerns.
“Over importing pigs from neighboring countries seriously affects human health and price of domestic pork,” said Srun Pov, president of CPRA.
“It has caused serious losses to small, medium, and large-scale production," the president added.
