Phnom Penh (FN), May 10 - The Chairman of the National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD), Ke Kim Yan, urged the need for greater cooperation between the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Greater Mekong countries (GMS) including: Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Thailand.
The plea was made in response to increasing drug crimes and new smuggling techniques in the region, particularly Cambodia.
The meeting between the signatories was held Wednesday at the Raffles Hotel Le Royal.
Cambodia thanked the signatories for their technical, logistical, and engineering support in the effort to deter drug crimes.
In response, the countries in GMS and UNODC committed to support Cambodia in the making the region a drug-free zone.
