Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 4 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the Royal Government has prioritized ensuring comfort for individuals with disabilities, implementing social assistance programs particularly for the vulnerable, including those with disabilities. The Government has allocated over USD 1.3 billion to assist around 1.5 million vulnerable families.

The premier spoke on Monday (Dec. 4) during a celebration of the 25th National and 41st International Day of PWD at Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Center, Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei underlined that the Royal Government has an optimistic outlook regarding the shared vision to continually advance the disability sector. Empowering and supporting individuals with disabilities holds significant value for the overall development of society, especially amid the ongoing efforts for sustainable economic recovery, environmental resilience, and rebuilding after the challenges posed by the COVID19 crisis.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei added that the Royal Government is dedicated to enhancing the living standards and reducing poverty among people with disabilities through the promotion of various career opportunities, decent work, and employment, alongside the implementation of diverse policies. Additionally, donors, civil society, and development partners have actively contributed both financial resources and human support for the benefit of people with disabilities in Cambodia.

Samdech Thipadei underscored that, "The Royal Government has prioritized the well-being of individuals with disabilities, implementing measures including inclined parking lots, designated sign language zones, and pathways for the visually impaired. Additionally, social assistance programs have been implemented, with the state allocating over USD 1.3 billion to support approximately 1.5 million vulnerable families."

The premier continued that the participation of the private sector, civil society, factories, enterprises and all institutions should be carried out responsibly and by raising awareness about the obligation to actively recruit people with disabilities, in line with the stipulations of the Law on the Protection and the Promotion of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei directed the Ministry of Information to instruct all public and private radio and television stations, as well as other media outlets, to increase the broadcast time with subtitles to ensure that individuals with hearing impairments can receive information promptly.
