WASHINGTON, May 4 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump has invited his Colombian counterpart Juan Manuel Santos to the White House for talks later this month, the White House said Thursday.
The meeting, scheduled for May 18, will discuss bilateral and regional issues, including implementation of a peace accord reached between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, the White House said in a statement.
The two presidents will also talk about engagement on shared security objective, it said.
In addition, the meeting will cover topics including "countering democratic backsliding in Venezuela," according to the brief statement.
According to the Colombian Embassy in Washington, Santos will also meet with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence and U.S. congressional leaders, including House Speaker Paul Ryan.
